This typeface is called Tatsuro, named in honor of a Japanese American named Tatsuro Matsuda who hung a sign reading “I AM AN AMERICAN” outside of his family’s store in Oakland on the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor. His family was relocated and incarcerated under the US government’s policy of internment. It is designed by Vocal Type, which creates typefaces inspired by history.
